Life long learning
After obtaining your diploma, your workfield remains in motion. Because technological developments follow each other quickly, our environment and area of expertise are also developing rapidly. Therefore, also keep developing yourself.

What can you do?
You can take courses to broaden or deepen your professional carreer, to push the boundaries of your work area literally and figuratively or to learn about the business side of your work. Also consider your personal development: what suits you, what challenges do you want to take on? If you prefer to learn more from your own colleagues, see if you can start an intervision group. Because talking with colleagues about how they deal with certain things can help you with your own development in your work. Remember that you also learn when you read professional literature or visit presentations, lectures and symposia.
Keep track of professional developments
Depending on your profession, it requires more or less training to stay on level. Sometimes that goes without saying: you always learn new things by simply working. It can also mean that you must actively look for training. Make sure you stay up to date with what is going on in your area of expertise and make an estimate of the consequences for your own professional practice. New developments also offer new opportunities.
A mixed or broad professional practice is not unusual: different types of work often together provide a sufficient income. For example, by teaching in-school or out-of-school art education or by using specific competencies in a different field of work.
There may also be times when you might be able to use help in the business area. Then a business reorientation is very useful: how do you present yourself, what are your opportunities, which revenue model is realistic, what does your business plan look like or where do you find that permanent job that suits you well?
Where can you find refresher courses?
Keep in touch with your own academy, these often offer a range of courses in your area of expertise. For example, the AHK offers various workshops, masterclasses and courses to broaden or deepen your professional practice. For students and alumni who want to improve their business knowledge and skills there are various courses and a help desk for business questions.
Trade unions, professional associations, cultural organisations and various commercial institutions also offer coaching, advice, information and courses. Established (cultural) institutions sometimes offer interesting learning places or talent development programs.
Developing yourself professionally is important for your sustainable employability and earning capacity within the sector. If you invest in your professional development, investigate whether PPO (Permanent Professional Development) might want to contribute to it. The PPO fund was founded in 2020 by the Arbeidsmarkt Culturele en Creatieve Toekomst (ACCT) platform.
Free training due to the corona crisis
From August 2020, workers and jobseekers can follow a development process free of charge with a qualified career counselor. A career counselor can support you in choosing the right (additional) training or give you tips when searching and applying for work. This initiative is called NL leert door and will be expanded in the autumn with free online training courses.
