Production houses and workshops

Production houses and workshops support young, beginning theatre makers and provide a bridge to a professional practice. They offer young makers the opportunity to experiment and develop their own signature. In addition, more and more platforms are emerging for talent development.

Development institutions

In the basic infrastructure (BIS) these 'development institutions' are funded for the period 2021-2024:

De Nieuwe Oost acts as a talent generator. Their productions have an interdisciplinary character and exhibit cross-media stage productions.

DOX is a Utrecht-based home for young stage talent focussing on experiment and new developments in dance, theatre, music and film.

Grand Futura is located in Groningen and combines talent development activities of the Grand Theatre and those of the Station Noord network, which consists of thirteen other performing arts institutions in Groningen, Friesland and Drenthe.

Korzo supports young talented artists and is a major dance producer in the Netherlands.

Likeminds is a producer and network of polyphonic theatre makers who use the city as a stage and source of inspiration.

Musicalmakers is the production house for new Dutch musical in Amsterdam, where established makers and young talents experiment with original stories from a diverse society.

Orkater is a group of makers, with the successful talent development program Orkater / De Nieuwkomers. They constantly innovate and rejuvenate themselves in an organic way.

Toneelschuur Producties in Haarlem is a production house for theatre makers of today and tomorrow. Not the artistic trajectory of Toneelschuur Productions, but the development of the individual makers is key. Every year the Frans Lommerse Stipendium is going to a new talent who's involved at the Toneelschuur.

Production houses and workplaces

There are also initiatives funded by the Performing Arts Fund, Fonds voor Cultuurparticipatie and/or municipal and provincial funds. At a production house, you can develop a production for a short tour. A workplace is designed for the development of a smaller production, with more room for risk and experiment.

Het Atelier is the place to be for young talent in the field of location theater. Within this process there is space for research and experiment in the public space under the supervision of Oerol and Over het IJ festival.

Bellevue Lunchtheater is a springboard for new, debuting writing talent and a testing ground for more experiented theatre makers.

Boslab is a breeding ground for idiosyncratic and young professional theatre makers. Makers present their work at the festival and deviate both figuratively and literally from the beaten (forest) paths.

Dansateliers is a workshop for contemporary dance in Rotterdam, which is subsidized by the municipality of Rotterdam

DansBrabant stimulates choreographers and dancers at an international level and is subsidised by the Noord-Brabant province and the municipality of Tilburg.

Dutch National Opera Studio is a program for young artists who can further develop into all-round artists, offering quality training combined with a wide range of professional experiences.

Frascati producties in Amsterdam, produces the work of talented young theatre makers.

Het Huis Utrecht is a home for artists and new ideas. It offers (theatre) makers and other creatives a place and guides them in developing their plans. Other theatre professionals make use of the expertise.

Hollandse Luchten is a production house for talented makers in Alkmaar. There is room for experiment and research here. The cultural breeding ground HAL25 is the home base. Here is room for makers to work.

ICK Artist Space supports the development of young choreographic talent. The young choreographers work closely with the Company and the Academy.

Kasko is a production house for small-scale musical theatre and opera in Zwolle. Kameroperahuis provides (inter)national career opportunities to young talented opera and music theatre professionals. It focuses not only on artistic development, but also and especially on the development of cultural entreperneurship.

Moving Futures organises an annual festival in several cities for young artists. In addition, makers receive a development trajectory, named Moving Forward, that is shaped by different institutions.

Oorkaan makes music shows for children. Directors can try out ideas for children's concerts in the workshop. The musicians work with theatre artists, choreographers, filmmakers and puppeteers.

Paradiso-Melkweg Productiehuis (PMP) is the laboratory of the music stages Paradiso and Melkweg. It acts as a workshop for young, talented creators who develop multidisciplinary projects for pop venues. After a period of research follow a number of presentations in the Melkweg Theatre. The PMP receives financial support from the municipality of Amsterdam.

PLAN supports the newest generation of theater, dance and circus makers. PLAN is a platform in which producers, stages and festivals work together. Promising talents receive support with the development of their signature, cultural entrepreneurship, public and the visibility of their work.

Productiehuis Theater Rotterdam is a theatre laboratory for talent within the organisation Theater Rotterdam. Upcoming and established theatre artists from Rotterdam and beyond can explore and extend their personal limits and work on their own signature.

Random Collision in Groningen supports starting choreographers in their careers.

SoAP Maastricht is a platform that outlines talent development always in relation to the artistic practice of the maker. This flexible approach forms the identity of SoAP, which constantly searches for the right preconditions for shaping the creative process.

Theaterproductiehuis Zeelandia gives (young) professional artists from the Netherlands and Flanders the opportunity to make performances. Some productions go on tour in the Netherlands and Flanders. In addition, location theatre shows form the core of the Zeeland Nazomerfestival.

Veem House for Performance is an international co-production platform for contemporary performing arts in Amsterdam, focussing on mime and movement theatre.

VIA ZUID is a talent development organisation for the professional performing arts in and from Limburg. VIA ZUID supports beginning, talented makers such as choreographers, performers, directors, writers and composers on their way to an independent professional practice.
