How many stages, shows and visitors are there in the Netherlands?
In 2016 there were 557 theatres in the Netherlands. (CBS,2018)
Popular music attracts the most visitors in the performing arts (18%), closely followed by cabaret (15%), classical music (15%) and drama (13%). Other categories are amateur performances (10%), dance (3%), opera (3%) and other (such as literature, 9%). (VSCD, 2016)
At the VSCD-stages there were 27.975 performances in 2016; 4.620 plays, 1.170 dance performances, 2.019 musicals and 4.516 cabaret performances. (VSCD, 2016)
In total there were 53.413 performances in the performing arts in 2016 by the CBS, of which 12.635 plays, 19.899 musical performances 2.512 dance performances, 4.778 music theatre performances, 7.790 cabaret performances and 5.799 other performances. (CBS, 2018)
59% of ticket sales took place over the internet; 32% at the theatre box office and 9% in other ways. (VSCD, 2016) In total there were 10 million visits in 2016. (VSCD, 2016)
14% of the performances is funded by the Dutch government, 86% is offered commercially (VSCD, 2016)

There are 14.178 people employed in theatres and concert halls. Of these, 4.350 are employed with a contract. 7.189 people are hired flexibly and 2.639 persons work as volunteers (VSCD, 2016)
