Subsidized ensembles

One jazz ensemble is subsidized within the basic infrastructure and a few others through the Performing Arts Fund. All other ensembles are often funded by their municipality.

Basic infrastructure

Within the basic infrastructure (basisinfrastructuur, BIS) 2021-2024, one ensemble will receive a subsidy from the government:

Metropole Orkest plays jazz, pop, soul, funk, cabaret, musicals, film scores and world music. From now and from longer ago.

Performance Art Fund

The following ensembles will receive a subsidy for the period 2021-2024 from the Performing Arts Fund NL:

Artvark Saxophone Quartet is a saxophone quartet that brings a mix of jazz repertoire with pop music and classical music. The quartet consists of saxophonists Rolf Delfos, Bart Wirtz, Mete Erker and Peter Broekhuizen. In many cases the music is written and arranged by the musicians themselves. In addition to the quartet concerts, there are collaborations with artists and groups from different genres and disciplines.

Boi Akih is an ensemble that performs jazz and is influenced by different musical traditions and genres. The core of the group is formed by vocalist Monica Akihary and guitarist Niels Brouwer. Musicians from diverse cultural backgrounds often work together with them.

Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw is a big band that brings repertoire. They have a fixed core of jazz musicians, based on the American big band tradition. Under the direction of the American conductor Dennis Mackrel, the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw presents a popular repertoire that is related to various styles of pop music. The big band also works with conductor Rob Horsting on its own repertoire, which is often written by members of the group. Dutch jazz artists are also involved as guests at these concerts.

Tonality is the organisation in which the activities of the Rembrandt Frerichs trio are united. The trio consists of pianist Frerichs, bassist Tony Overwater and percussionist Vinsent Planjer. The trio combines jazz and improvised music with baroque and Persian music. The trio also plays partly on an array of old instruments such as the fortepiano and violone. Often they perform with international guests.

Structural subsidy from other governments

Provinces and city councils give structural subsidy as well. A few well-known companies receive a structural subsidy from a (big) city council. In Amsterdam the Amsterdamse Kunstraad advised on the Kunstenplan.
