Jazz competitions and awards
There are a number of national awards and competitions that can help musicians, at the start of their careers, to get more publicity, gigs and to reach a wider audience.
Selection competitions and awards
De Buma Boy Edgar Prijs
Is awarded annually to a jazz musician who has made himself extraordinarily useful to Dutch jazz. The award consists of a monetary prize and a challenge trophy by Jan Wolkers. The awarding of the prize traditionally takes place in the Bimhuis and is broadcast live on the radio by the VPRO.
Keep an Eye Jazz Award
Award for young jazz musicians from various international conservatories. The award includes a cash prize, CD recordings and gigs on Amsterdam's jazz venues.
Dutch Jazz Competition
In this competition young jazz groups measure themselves against each other using an elimination system with a finale at the Bimhuis. The prize package includes a working budget and a tour along leading Dutch jazz venues.
Prinses Christina Concours
Committed to promote classical music, jazz and composition among young people. With the yearly competitions, the organizers’ desire is to get as many young people as possible excited about music.
Expression of Art Award
In collaboration with the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, the Conservatorium Hotel organizes the Expression of Art Award. Four bands or the jazz department of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam get the chance to win € 5,000 for their further musical development.
