Festivals classical music

The Netherlands has many mixed and mono disciplinary music festivals. Below the festivals which focus on, among other things, classical music.

Festivals financed in the basic infrastructure (basisinfrastructuur, BIS) 2021-2024

Holland festival is the international performing arts festival of Amsterdam. Takes place every year in June.

Festival Oude Muziek (Festival of Old Music) is organized by the Organization for Old Music and has the goal of opening up and presenting a musical repertoire from earlier centuries for a large audience. Takes place every year in September.

November Music is a tri-country festival (the Netherlands, Germany and Flanders) which puts present-day music in the limelight. The ten-day festival does not concentrate on a certain musical style but attempts to find cross connections between various movements such as modern composed music, improvisational music, pop music, jazz and world music.

Rotterdam Opera Days is an opera and music theatre festival of ten days offering more then 100 performances on different stages in the city of Rotterdam.

Oerol open air festival at Terschelling for theatre makers, musicians and visual artists from the Netherlands and abroad. Takes place every year in June.

These festivals get their money from the Performing Arts Fund, provinces, municipalities, private funds and/or sponsors.

Festival Musica Sacra wants to show the confrontation and blending of cultures and styles in the area of sacred music. The musical setting of a number of religious celebrations in the various churches, synagogues and mosque of Maastricht is always included in the festival.

Gaudeamus muziekweek is an international music festival held in Utrecht for young composers.

Grachtenfestival (Canals Festival) presents performances of classical music in extraordinary locations and a special programming of classical music in regular venues in the same surroundings (the historical centre city in Amsterdam). The festival draws a large, diverse audience and has a national and international atmosphere about it.

International Kamermuziek Festival held in Utrecht every year and organised by Janine Jansen.

Internationale Koorbiënnale stages worlds best vocal ensembles and outstanding amateurs. At different locations in Haarlem and Amsterdam.

Internationaal Orgelfestival Haarlem (International Organ Festival Haarlem) has the objective of contributing to national and international improvisational art on the organ.

Orlando Festival has the goal of propagating chamber music through the combination of chamber music education with concerts. Lessons are given to amateurs, professional music students and young professional chamber music ensembles. There are also concerts presented with unique programmes.

Wonderfeel takes place at the estate in ’s-Graveland and meets everyone’s taste: from Mozart to Steve Reich, from Vivaldi to Pärt with hints towards jazz, world and pop music. With 100 performances in three days in the month of July.
