Professional associations and trade unions

There is a wide variety of professional organisations. The following are the main ones. They all give priority to networking. They organise thematic evenings and workshops and publish newsletters. Most organisations are very professional and well informed and can advise the individual members on how to run a professional business practice.

For all departments

Representative bodies can do a lot for you in many different ways. Sometimes there are student or starter rates and you can usually sign up for newsletters for free.

Nederlandse Beroepsvereniging van Film- en Televisiemakers (NBF)
Represents and promotes the cultural and social interests of Dutch film production and all those involved in it. It is above all an important network organisation.

Vers/ Nieuwe Film- en Televisiemakers 
Actively promotes the productivity of new film and television producers. Mutual contact between the members, thematic evenings and especially a focus on the professionalisation of the sector are taken to be the main source of inspiration for film producers. Contribution is free for students.

Kunstenbond and CNV Kunst en Cultuur
Represent the interests of employees and self-employed entrepreneurs in the art and cultural sector. They support members in setting up and maintaining a professional practice, contracts, rates, legal aid and social security. They are also a discussion partner in consultation circuits for the representation of collective interests vis-à-vis government bodies, public broadcasting companies and other organisations.

Producers

Dutch Audiovisual Producers Alliance (NAPA)
The NAPA offers a joint voice to independent professional producers. Its members are active in a variety of disciplines, including feature film, drama series, documentary, animation, interactive productions and games. The professional association aims to promote the common interests of its members and to strengthen the production climate.

Nederlandse Content Producenten (NCP)
Collaboration of medium sized, independent television producers. NCP defends the interests of producers in politics, public and commercial broadcasters and foreign streaming services.

Stichting onafhankelijke Producten Nederland (StOPnl)
StOPnl wants to improve the position of producers by improving the professional organisations of producers. StOPnl is also involved in the collection, management and distribution of funds and the management of rights to film works under Dutch agreements.

Distributors

Filmdistributeurs Nederland
Promotes the interests of film distributors.

De Nederlandse Vereniging van Bioscoopexploitanten (NVBF)
The Dutch Association of Cinema Operators (NVB) is a trade association of all cinemas and movie theatres in the Netherlands.

Directing

Dutch Directors Guild (DDG) 
Is both a network organisation and the number one organisation that focuses on the interests of directors, such as model contracts, agreements on fees, and copyright claims. Members are entitled to legal aid, insurance policies and festival discounts. In addition, the DDG organises member evenings, seminars and workshops.

Assistant Directors Club (ADC) 
Association with the aim of sharing mutual knowledge and raising the field to a higher level. Organises courses, information evenings and a film party and maintains contact with foreign seminars and colleagues.

Screenwriters

Netwerk Scenarioschrijvers 
Part of the Vereniging van Schrijvers. It is strong in aspects bearing on copyright and contract for scenario writers. It engages in collective negotiations concerning fees, model contracts and copyright with broadcasting companies and producers. It provides individual advice for its members. It is also active in the field of promoting and stimulating measures for the Dutch film sector.

Cinematography

Netherlands Society of Cinematographers (NSC) 
Professional association for cameramen, operators and focus pullers specialised in drama. It is mainly concerned with the professionalisation of the creative and technical conditions in the carrying out of their specialist work.

Audio

Vereniging Constructief Audio (VCA) 
Promotes quality audio in Dutch film and video productions. It is also a centre of information and knowledge for its individual members and assists those who are starting up.

Editors

Nederlandse vereniging van cinema editors (NCE)
Organises meetings between editors from home and abroad and focuses on the craft and substantive aspects of film editing. The NCE is committed to professionalisation and deepening by organising lectures and seminars, among other things.

Visual effects

Nederlandse Vereniging van Visual Effects Professionals (NVX)
The Dutch Association of Visual Effects Professionals is committed to improve professionalism and recognition of visual effects in the Netherlands and annually awards the NVX Award to the best visual effects in a Dutch production at the Nederlands Film Festival.

Composers

Beroepsvereniging Componisten Multimedia (BCMM)
For composers in advertising, film and tunes and jingles and game music. The association represents the interests and also helps with legal issues.

Actors

ACT Belangenvereniging voor acteurs
Everything you need to know as an actor, business information and support, education and networking. Membership is free for third and fourth year students of the Mime and ATKA study programs of the AHK.
