Professional associations and trade unions

Professional associations represent the interests of their members. They also often organise theme evenings, workshops, networking opportunities and publish newsletters. Most organisations have a high degree of professionalism and knowledge. They can often provide good advice on the business side of your professional practice.

For all departments

Representative bodies can do a lot for you in many different ways. Sometimes there are student or starter rates and you can usually sign up for newsletters for free.

Nederlandse Beroepsvereniging van Film- en Televisiemakers (NBF)
Promotes the cultural and social interests of all film and television makers by being actively involved in political conversations and negotiations. In addition, the NBF is an important network organisation. The NBF also serves as a service bureau for questions about contracts, copyright or finance.

VERS, Nieuwe film-, tv- en XR-makers
VERS is a platform and network association that focuses on new visual makers. They organise an annual festival. Here, young talented filmmakers get the opportunity to show their short film on the big screen and win a prize with an accompanying amount of money for a next production. Membership is free for students.

Kunstenbond and CNV
The trade union organisations Kunstenbond and CNV represent the interests of employees and self-employed people in the arts and culture sector. They provide members with support in setting up and maintaining a professional practice, contracts, rates, legal assistance and social security. They are also discussion partners in consultation circuits for collective advocacy at governments, public broadcasters and other organisations.

Producers

Dutch Audiovisual Producers Alliance (NAPA)
The NAPA offers a joint voice to independent professional producers. Its members are active in a variety of disciplines, including feature film, drama series, documentary, animation, interactive productions and games. The professional association aims to promote the common interests of its members and to strengthen the production climate.

Nederlandse Content Producenten (NCP)
Collaboration of medium sized, independent television producers. NCP defends the interests of producers in politics, public and commercial broadcasters and foreign streaming services.

Stichting onafhankelijke Producten Nederland (StOPnl)
StOPnl wants to improve the position of producers by improving the professional organisations of producers. StOPnl is also involved in the collection, management and distribution of funds and the management of rights to film works under Dutch agreements.

Distributors

NVPI Film
NVPI Film is the group association that promotes the interests of distributors who release films in cinemas and movie theaters, and of distributors who are active in the home entertainment market.

Nederlandse Vereniging van Bioscopen en Filmtheaters (NVBF)
The NVBF is the trade organisation for all cinema and film theater operators in the Netherlands and its aim is collective advocacy, promotion, professionalisation and communication in the broadest sense of the word. All cinemas and film theaters in the Netherlands are members.

Directing

Dutch Directors Guild (DDG)
The Dutch Directors Guild is the trade association for Dutch directors. They unite, inform and represent, both collectively and individually. The association has more than 600 members who create audiovisual works: fiction films, documentaries, series, television, radio, podcasts, digital storytelling, animation and commercials.

Assistant Directors Club (ADC)
The Assistant Directors Club is an association of people in the film, commercial and television industry, who unite under the directing department: First, Second and Third ADs, Recording Managers, Director's Assistants, Child Supervisors, Figuration Supervisors, Script Continuity , Game Coaches, Intimacy Coordinators and Production Assistants. The aim is to represent, bring together and professionalise, through drinks, theme evenings, courses and meetings.

Screenwriters

De Auteursbond - Netwerk Scenarioschrijvers
The Authors' Union is the Dutch professional organisation for everyone who lives by his/her/their pen. They stand up for a healthy income position for writers and translators, offer business support and provide individual (contract) advice. They also organise symposia, workshops and master classes. Members meet each other during drinks and exchange ideas.

Cinematography

Netherlands Society of Cinematographers (NSC) 
Professional association for cameramen, operators and focus pullers specialised in drama. It is mainly concerned with the professionalisation of the creative and technical conditions in the carrying out of their specialist work.

Audio

Vereniging Constructief Audio (VCA) 
Promotes quality audio in Dutch film and video productions. It is also a centre of information and knowledge for its individual members and assists those who are starting up.

Editors

Nederlandse vereniging van Cinema-Editors (NCE)
The NCE is an association where editors from the Netherlands and abroad meet and inspire each other. The NCE focuses on the craft and substantive aspects of film editing and is committed to professionalisation and deepening, including by organising lectures and seminars about the profession and editors' meetings at film festivals.

Visual effects

Nederlandse Vereniging van Visual Effects Professionals (NVX)
The Dutch Association of Visual Effects Professionals is committed to improve professionalism and recognition of visual effects in the Netherlands and annually awards the NVX Award to the best visual effects in a Dutch production at the Nederlands Film Festival.

Composers

Beroepsvereniging voor Componisten Multimedia (BCMM)
For composers in advertising, film, tunes, jingles and game music. The association represents the interests and also helps with legal issues.

Actors

ACT Belangenvereniging voor acteurs
ACT is an association for professional actors in the Netherlands. They are involved in collective labor agreement negotiations and advocate fair daily allowances for film and television productions. As an ACT member you get access to resources such as the cheat sheet with fair rates, exclusive workshops, a personal profile for casting directors and producers and a network of more than 1300 actors. Membership is free for third and fourth year students of the Mime and ATKA study programs of the AHK.
