WWIK in the news
WWIK has been abolished since January 1st 2012. The transition arrangements (until July 1st 2012) will apply only to those who already had the right to receive WWIK on December 31 2011.
Artists' Income Support (WWIK)
What is the WWIK?
The WWIK is a special scheme for artists. Artists can receive an allowance amounting to 70% of the standard amount of social security for a period of 48 months. They are allowed to earn up to 125% of the social security level applicable to them from art or in some other way. They can follow all kinds of courses and take part in work experience projects. They are not obliged to apply for employment.
But, if they earn too much on the side, they have to repay the corresponding sum. If their capital from work not related to their profession becomes too high, the WWIK stops. They are not allowed to spend more than four weeks abroad without special permission from Social Security, for example for concerts, master classes or exhibitions.
